ECM software in crisis -- or at a crossroads?
The proliferation of workplace data presents a growing challenge for ECM. According to IBM, 90% of the world's data has been created during the past two years. That has many companies expanding storage capacity or re-evaluating information governance policies to help maximize finite resources.
Nearly two-thirds of respondents to a recent AIIM survey said their content was growing by at least 30% annually. But many respondents did see the potential to increase content management efficiency with better governance and compliance:
• Seventy-three percent of respondents said half of their company content has no value.
• Thirty-two percent of respondents said they have a "keep everything" policy for content.
• Only 11% reported having a robust information governance policy that's followed.
• Only 7% had a system for deleting information based on business value.
